2019 Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume, Jean-Claude et Romain Bessin

2019 Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume, Jean-Claude et Romain Bessin

Fourchaume is one of the warmest sites in Chablis, thanks to its southerly exposure. In the hands of the Bessins, it retains its punchy freshness in an explosive bright pineapple style. Vibrant, juicy, with a little touch of yellow spice, and a long, fresh finish. This is a prime example of the ‘alive’ style of wines here: it has so much expression, even in youth.

Tasting notes

A deft but not invisible application of wood can be found on the more restrained if otherwise similar nose. As is usually the case, there is more volume and power to the medium weight plus flavors that coat the palate with dry extract while delivering very fine depth and persistence on the balanced and quite firm finish where the wood evidenced by the nose resurfaces. This too is really quite lovely and worth checking out.
