2019 Beaune 1er Cru Aigrots Blanc, Domaine de Montille

2019 Beaune 1er Cru Aigrots Blanc, Domaine de Montille

This premier cru is all too often overlooked, overshadowed by the classic white villages of the southern Côte de Beaune. But to miss out on this Beaune 1er Cru would be a mistake. It sits high up on the hill, where the soils are poor and high in limestone. The vines struggle and strive, and the wines are full of life. The 2019 is perfumed with sweet nectarine fruit, and the palate has a wonderful grapefruit bitterness. Delicious, and good value, too.

Tasting notes

The 2019 Beaune Les Aigrots Blanc 1er Cru had a bit of reduction on the nose, though that does not disguise the good intensity of fruit and the honeysuckle and yellow plum aromas. The palate is well balanced with a waxy-textured entry, good depth, orange pith and nectarine notes and a rather tight finish. This is a fine Les Aigrots and it should open up nicely after the remaining six months’ élevage.
