This outstanding premier cru in St-Aubin sits on top of the hill that peaks between Chassagne and St-Aubin, just behind Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru. The wine is a blend of five parcels within En Remilly, and expresses the vineyard’s natural tendency to floral, peachy fruit, with mineral tension underneath. This has so much zing and pop in 2019. In warm years it can tend towards the exotic, but here it is zingy and citrus, and incredibly well balanced.
The 2019 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru is more exhibitionist on the nose compared to other cuvées with overt tropical notes of passion fruit, guava and citrus peel. The bouquet is well balanced with tempting orange pith and yellow plum notes. In this vintage I am more taken with the La Chatenière or Sous Rouche Dumay that are both more classic in style.
The 2019 Saint-Aubin Village "Luce", a blend of three plots and raised in 15% new oak, has a taut, crushed stone and smoke-tinged bouquet that unfolds gently from the glass. The palate is well balanced with a pleasant bitter lemon trait on the entry, very precise and energetic towards the citrus-driven finish. A perfect introduction to the domaine.
