2016 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves, Domaine de Montille
Probably the finest Beaune vineyard, in the 19th century it was seen as a Tête de Cuvée, the top level of the Côte’s wines. It’s darker and more brooding than Les Sizies, concentration perhaps boosted by losing 40% of the crop. The nose is powerful, quite ferrous, but with a nice lift and more elegance than typical.
