2004 Beaune-Grèves 1er Cru, Michel Lafarge

2004 Beaune-Grèves 1er Cru, Michel Lafarge

One of the undisputed stars of the tasting. One would expect beaune to be a little more rustic in style than volnay but not chez Lafarge. There was an amazing, intense nose of succulent wild berries with a perfumed character and subtle cream notes. Certainly fleshy and intense, but a real mouthful of fruit. More obvious elegance on the palate and indeed more structure and bite. This will need time but shows what Grèves is capable of in the right hands.
