2005 Château Clos Haut-Peyraguey, Sauternes

2005 Château Clos Haut-Peyraguey, Sauternes

A first-time purchase for Lay & Wheeler, Clos Haut-Péyraguey has produced the finest vintage we can recall in 2005. This is nectar! Rich and intense with broad, peach, apricot and pineapple flavours vying for supremacy. Surely one of the wines of the Sauternais vintage and excellent price/quality ratio.

Château Clos Haut-Peyraguey

Clos Haut-Peyraguey is a Premier Cru Classé Sauternes whose origins can be dated back to 1879, when it formed part of a much larger Peyraguey property. The estate was split and Haut-Peyraguey (whose name means hill) took the highest part of the estate, its vines sitting atop the hill of Bommes, while the remainder made up Lafaurie Peyraguey. Its vineyards are adjacent to those of Château d’Yquem and consist of 12 hectares of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Its more recent history took shape in 2012 when the estate was acquired by Bernard Magrez, who ensures that his attention to detail is reflected in the sumptuous sweetness of the two wines made - Haut-Peyraguey and the second wine, Symphonie de Peyraguey.
