1996 Château Haut-Brion, 1er Cru Pessac-Léognan

1996 Château Haut-Brion, 1er Cru Pessac-Léognan

The 1996 Haut Brion is already starting to show many of the hallmarks of great vintages from this estate with hints of Havana cigar, spice and leather. The pure, intense fruit is still vibrantly evident on the palate, where a great concentration of blackberry and damson fruit is beautifully counterbalanced by an intense mineral freshness and fine, structural tannins. All this at what is surely a shockingly appealing price for such a revered First Growth property in a vintage of such widely acknowledged stature. Robert Parker Score: 95.
