2022 Château Chantalouette, Pomerol

2022 Château Chantalouette, Pomerol

New release

Tasted April 2023. 72% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon. Moderate intensity of bright bramble fruit and some crunchier cranberry. Iron-y, gravelly elements with grippy tannins. Approachable and juicy but balanced by an appetising, mineral-driven element in this excellent year.

Tasting notes

Careful extraction, allowing the fresh layer of sappy tannins to support the intensely ripe fig and blacberry fruits. Short on the finish. Aged in a mix of barrels and stainless steel vats. 2nd wine of Château de Sales, 47.5ha.

85/100

The second wine of Château De Sales, the 2022 Château Chantalouette is based on 72% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, all from a larger vineyard of gravelly, iron-laced soils. This ruby-hued 2022 has a solid perfume of ripe black cherries, leafy herbs, damp earth, and graphite that carries to a medium to full-bodied, round, lush, seamless Pomerol that's perfect for drinking any time over the coming decade or more. For a second wine, it has terrific tannins and should easily be an outstanding wine.

A polished and refined 2022 with crushed stone and black olive skin. It’s medium-bodied with lovely presence and finesse. Some chocolate comes through. Yet, it’s structured at the same time. 72% merlot, 15% cabernet franc and 13% cabernet sauvignon.

The 2022 Chante Alouette emerges from select parcels within Château de Sales. A potent, driving Pomerol, Chante Alouette offers quite a bit of impact in its forward, red-toned fruit. Hopefully élevage will help soften some of the angular contours.
