This is certainly no “second wine”, the clos is rightly treated as a great wine in its own right by the team at Leoville-Las-Cases. With similarly low yields and fastidious attention to detail among the vines and in the cellar, the nose of cassis and coffee is focussed and pure. A dense and mouthfilling palate of plums, blackcurrant and a subtle hint of creamy toasty oak all backed by an appealing freshness and overall sense of balance.
