Under the management of Bruno Borie, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is unquestionably one of the top Super Seconds in any vintage. Changes in the vineyard and in the winery have led to huge improvements in both the quality and consistency of this property over the last ten years. The attention to detail that is applied to the creation of the Grand Vin is carried through to the excellent, and always very reasonable, La Croix de Beaucaillou, making this one of the best value second wines that we tasted in 2008. Deep in hue, with a fresh, open aroma of ripe summer fruit. Soft, juicy berry fruit on the palate, with a lifted, fragrant touch. The tannins are barely perceptible, just a gentle, fine underpinning to the plump, ample fruit. There is good substance here for a wine of this level.
