2006 Château Léoville-Poyferré, Cru Classé St-Julien

2006 Château Léoville-Poyferré, Cru Classé St-Julien

This assemblage of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 6 % Petit Verdot benefits greatly from Didier Cuvelier’s investment in a new sorting machine. In such a vintage, many hours were spent ensuring only the ripest, healthiest fruit made it into the vats. Solid in appearance, nearly opaque. The aromas suggest black fruit, currant and cherry, with a sweet, almost scented note of ripeness, as well as toasty nuances. On the palate, Poyferré impresses greatly. It has a seamless texture, with a wealth of fresh fruit. Silky, fine tannins lend valuable definition and grip. There’s nothing heady here, just a pure, sophisticated style; relatively full but elegant too. A fine effort.
