2006 Château Palmer, Cru Classé Margaux

2006 Château Palmer, Cru Classé Margaux

Dark and brooding in the glass, the nose is of dark forest fruit and fresh, crunchy blackcurrants. The impression given is one of extraordinary density, but this is lightened by a sweet, fragrant note. On the palate, the tannins are silky-fine and well integrated with the dense core of rich blackberry, cassis and blueberry fruit. While this is undoubtedly a very big wine, the fragrance continues on to the palate, providing a sweet, violet-edged lift which lends a real sense of poise and elegance. An attractively textured, layered and seductive style, the finish is long, lingering and fresh. Beautiful.

Tasting notes

The dense ruby/purple-hued 2006 Palmer reveals sweet aromas of melted licorice, underbrush, toast, plums, and black cherries. Outstanding density, a medium to full-bodied style, and a personality that recalls 1996, this blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon and 34% Merlot possesses moderately high tannins as well as plenty of aging potential. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2028.
