2004 Château Ausone, 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) St-Emilion

2004 Château Ausone, 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) St-Emilion

Intensity in the glass, restraint on the nose, the 2004 Ausone shows a terrific richness, dense and fruit laden with characters of deep plum, damson and a redcurranty acidity. The fruit here is multi-faceted showing great expanse and working on many levels. Mineral qualities and gentle elements of charry, toasted oak add interest. A finely, poised wine that despite its weight shows great balance – a fresh nature runs throughout this style and will see that it makes old bones. The tannins are powerful but not drying, their grip is very fine. A bold statement, Ausone shows the calibre of Michel Rolland’s winemaking allied to the grandeur of a great terroir. Grand Vin!
