2000 Château Léoville-Barton, Cru Classé St-Julien

2000 Château Léoville-Barton, Cru Classé St-Julien

Langoa lives in the considerable shadow of its big brother Léoville-Barton and its wines are regularly under-estimated. Fifteen hectares in area, it is one-third the size of Léoville; their encépagements are identical with 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc. There is no château of Léoville-Barton and it is in the beautiful Langoa that Anthony and Eva Barton live. We are sure this is the most outstanding Langoa that we have tasted from barrel. An absolutely gorgeous St-Julien which has produced a number of thrilling wines in this outstanding vintage. Lovely pristine perfume of red fruits cloaked in spicy oak. On the palate abundant fruit flows alongside vanilla and exotic spices. A wine with considerable concentration yet this is a Langoa with perfect balance. Surely one of the best buys of the vintage.
