Chardonnay can be the best of wines, and the worst of wines. Especially Californian chardonnay. Foxglove is different. A value spin-off from the successful Varner winery established by brothers Jim and Bob Varner in the 1990s, Foxglove chardonnay is produced in the Central Coast region. Foxglove has a richness to it that is unusual in budget-friendly chardonnays; critics have been won over by its hints of toasty vanilla and creaminess, as well as its acidity and sprinkling of salt. The Varners specialise in terroir-driven, full-bodied wines, and the Foxglove label also includes a popular Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.
