Henschke is one of the most historic names in fine Australian wine. Vines were first planted by the winery’s founding father, Johann Christian Henschke, a German immigrant, in the Keyneton area of the Eden Valley in 1862. This would become the famous Hill of Grace vineyard; incredibly, fruit from some of those ancient vines are still being harvested today. Henschke Hill of Grace is widely regarded as Australia’s best single vineyard Shiraz, with bottles extremely coveted. Closely following in popularity is the Mount Edelstone Shiraz, Peggy’s Hill Riesling and more recent ventures such as the Hill of Peace Semillon. Today the winery is still a family affair – as all the best should be. The fifth generation, Stephen Henschke and his wife Prue, quietly continue the proud heritage which has produced some of the New World’s greatest wine.
