Domaine René Rostaing
Domaine Rostaing is one of Côte-Rôtie’s finest producers. René Rostaing built the reputation of his domaine from scratch, which is now responsible for some of the most appellation-defining and sought-after reds in the Northern Rhône. His son, Pierre, took over in 2015 and has continued to create the world-class wines the domaine is famous for. The success of Domaine Rostaing is simple: their 7.5 hectares of old-vine Syrah is grown on some of the finest sites in the Côte-Rôtie. They make four, single vineyard reds: La Landonne, Côte Blonde, Côte Brune and the more recent addition of La Viaillère, as well as their signature blend, Ampodium. The wines’ distinctive characters are handled in a similar fashion to the crus of Burgundy, testament to Pierre’s training with Dominique Lafon in Meursault before joining the family domaine. Pierre added La Viaillère to the original Rostaing range; it is made from a half-hectare parcel just north of La Landonne and is home to 80-year-old Syrah vines planted by his grandfather. The domaine also makes a Condrieu, La Bonnette, an unoaked Viognier which has become a classic in its own right.
