2020 EPU, Rothschild/Concha y Toro, Puente Alto Red | Still

The second wine from Almaviva is fantastic in 2020. Made from the younger vines in the renowned terroir of Puente Alto, it's picked a little earlier to preserve freshness, and is full of ripe red berry fruit, cassis and a creamy texture from maturation in oak barrels. This is approachable, soft, fresh and bright, with lovely balance and some dusty tannins.

2020 Almaviva, Rothschild/Concha y Toro, Puente Alto Red | Still | 15%

This is Almaviva's 25th harvest and was one of the earliest they've done thanks to a wam and dry growing season. The result is impressive, and the team have harnessed that heat, resulting in a wine that retains beautiful freshness and length. There's tons of ripe black fruit, layers of sweet spice and a creamy, voluptuous texture.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild / Robert Mondavi
Overture Opus One (2022 Release), Mondavi/Rothschild, Napa Valley Dry | Red | Still | 14%

This is multi-vintage, but retains plenty of 2019 character with subtle and balanced flavour and a juciness to the fruit. Full of aromatic plum, blueberry and red cherry, as well as fresh herbal notes. Fresh, well-knit and too easy to drink.

2019 Opus One, Mondavi/Rothschild, Napa Valley Dry | Red | Still | 13.5%

The 2019 vintage from the legendary collaboration between Robert Mondavi and Mouton-Rothschild is an absolute delight, showing to full effect the restrained power and vibrancy that comes from both influences. This vintage is a more textural, structured wine, with potential to develop beautifully in bottle. Alongside dense dark berry fruit is a lifted floral tone and subtle earthy notes.

2019 Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Beaulieu Vineyard, Napa Valley Dry | Red | Still | 14.5%

Now owned by the same team as Penfolds, Beaulieu Vineyards is famous for being one of the first Napa Cabernets back in the 1930s, located on the main highway nearby Opus One and the Robert Mondavi Winery. This 2019 vintage is beautifully rich and spicy, with graphite notes and very ultra-fine tannins. An absolutely classic Napa Cabernet.

Beaux Frères
Critic Score
94.75/100
2019 Belles Sœurs Cuvée Pinot Noir, Beaux Frères, Willamette Valley Dry | Red | Still | 13%

Nestled in the Willamette Valley, Beaux Frères has played a pioneering role in Oregon's rise to world recognition for great Pinot Noir. In 2017 the Henriot family of Champagne and Bouchard and Fèvre from Burgundy acquired a majority share of Beaux Frères, with the founders, the Etzel family, remaining as managing partners. The Belles Sœurs is a hand-selected barrel reserve from the three estate vineyards. Extremely elegant and fine with delicate red and black berries and spice on the nose, there's greater breadth and richness on the palate, with considerable finesse and freshness.

2020 Colore, Bibi Graetz, Tuscany Red | Still | 13.5%

Rich from old vine fruit with precise berries and wild strawberry fruit flavours. There's tons of dry spice aroma here too and a seriously long finish. Structured now with mouth-coating tannins, this is built for the long haul.

Cairossa has been owned by the same people as Chateau Giscours in Margaux since 2004 and is based on the Tuscan coast. 2019 is full of creamy red berry fruits and plenty of sappy tannins. There's some crunchier fruit on the palate and some woody herb flavours, as well as some more earthy spice.

Catena Zapata
Critic Score
96.5/100
2019 Catena Zapata Mundus Bacillus Terrae Malbec, Tupungato Dry | Red | Still | 13.5%

A trailblazing cuvee from Catena that focuses on the execptional terroir here. There's limestone soils and 1500m of elevation, leaving the wine with beautiful freshness and mineral tones. There are tons of aromatics, with vibrant red berry fruit and some floral blue fruits. There's chalkiness to the tannins and complex, dried herb notes. One of the most exciting wines coming out of Argentina.

2019 Nicolás Catena Zapata, Mendoza Dry | Red | Still | 14%

A pioneer in Argentina, Catena Zapata is a benchmark for Malbec. There's power here but plenty of stony, elegant restraint too. The tannins are grippy and chocolatey, and the fruit is dense and ripe, with light crunchier red fruit notes. Developing earthy, truffle notes, this is built for the long haul.

Château Latour
Critic Score
100/100
2010 Château Latour, 1er Cru Pauillac (2022 Ex-Château release) Dry | Red | Still | 14%

Comprising just 36% of production and consisting of 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine continues to be bold, tannic and surly as it reaches maturity. The structural components are firm and strong, unyielding in nature yet crafted with immaculate precision and sophistication. This is a monumental Latour, yet with a sense of not being imposing, with a lithe, fluid nature. Clarity of expression, great depth, complexity and a very long finish. As great a wine as has ever been made at Latour.
