Financial Accounting Assistant

We are looking for a full-time financial accounting assistant to join our growing fine wine business. This person will play an important role in ensuring the financial accuracy of the accounts, working closely with neighbouring departments (buying and stock control) to ensure information flows through in a timely and accurate manner.

Please note: Due to current social distancing guidelines, the start date will likely coincide with the relaxation of the same. However, we will assess CVs on a rolling basis, and conduct interviews digitally in the meantime.

Primary responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of weekly/monthly financial accounts, including:
    • General ledger entry and reconciliations
    • Identify and prepare journal entry adjustments as required
    • Preparation of supporting schedules
  • Support and maintain general accounting requirements, including:
    • Maintenance of Fixed Asset register
    • VAT
    • Stock control
    • Purchasing control
    • Payment setup
    • Ad-hoc department projects


  • Prior experience in an accounting and/or accounts role, preferably within the wine industry
  • Experience with the Navision accounting system and Barclays Net Internet banking
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, preferably the entire suite of Microsoft products, including Outlook


  • Highly organised; able to follow a process
  • Enjoys numbers and reconciling them
  • Efficient, with a strong work ethic
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Great interpersonal skills and communication

Need to know

  • The position is based at our offices located between Colchester and Ipswich
  • This is a full time role, working 40 hours per week
  • The successful candidate will have access to our staff discount on wines. We host a number of team social events throughout the year. We also enjoy a weekly Ocado delivery to the office, Friday beers, the occasional ping pong game and any excuse to celebrate (Easter, American Thanksgiving. . .)
  • Salary will be competitive and based on relevant experience
