Content Manager

Overview

Our mission is to connect the right wines with the right people, with an expert team and a world class range of the finest wines and spirits.

Context

In order to better connect people and wine, we believe information and education are key. We are looking for a highly motivated, hugely talented individual to join our team and take on responsibility for writing and creating content for a variety of channels, working closely with our buying and marketing teams.

Key activities

This role will involve a variety of activities which include but are not limited to:

  • Running our email marketing program:
    • Liaising with the relevant buying and marketing team members, as well as conducting independent research into the key selling points of each wine or list of wines (i.e. broking/trading content)
    • Assimilating this information into attention-grabbing emails
    • Using our email marketing platform to send emails, and AB test to drive email performance to maximise sales
    • Matching the Lay & Wheeler tone of voice
  • Writing other pieces for a variety of mediums, as the business’s needs evolve
    • Web content related to grape varieties, regions, styles of wine, producers, wines and vintages - with SEO as well as expertise in mind
    • Print content (direct mail) related to specific campaigns, such as the latest releases from a certain region (“Italy in 2022”) or a specific theme (“Alpine Wines”)
    • Social content, collaborating with our business development manager

Qualities

  • A love for writing, and for grammar and punctuation
  • A deep if not nerdy passion for wine, with either a formal wine qualification or aspirations for wine education (this role includes opportunities for sponsorship up to, and including, Master of Wine)
  • Enjoys translating technical information in human ways - taking the “what” and turning it into the “why”
  • A degree at 2.1 or higher is a plus
  • High emotional intelligence, builds relationships with ease and loves working with others to get a job done
  • Highly organised and efficient, able to manage high workload
  • Shows initiative, with a high bias for action

Additional details

  • Salary commensurate with experience, which will include participation in the company-wide bonus scheme, pension plan, staff discount on wine and other benefits.
  • Primary place of work is flexible, acknowledging that key buying activities (tastings, meetings) take place in London, and with a requirement to be at the Suffolk headquarters one day a week (currently Tuesdays)
