This is the perfect vintage for anyone who loves the great wines of Bordeaux. The wines included in this offer all particularly impressed us during our extensive tastings and come highly recommended by our team of Fine Wine Consultants. Regardless of your budget, it is hard to go far wrong with any purchase from this offer.
Cabernet Sauvignon has excelled in the Médoc, with the best wines there demonstrating an attractive ripeness and poise, as well as a luscious core of rich, but refreshing, cassis fruit. On the Right Bank, the St-Emilions and Pomerols, with their higher Merlot content, had an effortless density, combined with richness and complexity. Best of all though was the superb balance which is what makes 2009 so exceptional.
High scores from influential wine-critic Robert Parker ignited unprecedented demand for the top wines and a rush of speculation concerning their prices and availability. A summary of his views can be found here.
However, most prices remain reasonable and there are plenty of excellent wines under £300 per case. Nor do all of them require long-term or complicated storage. Due to the richness and balance, many wines will be approachable almost immediately upon shipment.
We have compiled a brief report on the 2009 vintage and our buyers, Nick Dagley and Simon Larkin MW, have written their opinions on the overall style of the vintage, as well as highlighting several notable Châteaux.
While Lay & Wheeler has successfully offered the fine wines of Bordeaux en primeur for many years, the coming together of Lay & Wheeler and Majestic in March 2009 has strengthened our position in Bordeaux with both Négociants and Châteaux. Majestic brings financial stability and, with a 12% market share (by value) of all Bordeaux sold in the UK off-trade, it makes us an ideal place to buy en-primeur.
We would be delighted to discuss the wines and the vintage with you. Please do not hesitate to call us on 0845 330 1855 or email sales@laywheeler.com for further information and to speak to one of our knowledgeable wine advisors.
