2008 Les Plantiers du Haut-Brion Blanc, Pessac-Léognan

Wine currently held in transit or abroad, estimated arrival in the UK 30/04/2011 (Find out more about En Primeur)

Until recently it has been extremely rare for this wine to be seen outside of the French restaurant scene. It is great news that it is now available more widely. This is outstanding value when one considers that it is essentially the second wine of Haut-Brion Blanc and Laville Haut-Brion combined, produced principally from younger vines but always to the same exacting standards as the rest of the wines from Domaine Clarence Dillon.

Deep, dark, profound cassis dominated nose. Concentrated, pure and powerful, this is akin to a classic-styled Barton. Great weight and balance. The rich, ripe forest fruit depth and the firm, powerful tannins are present in equally impressive proportions. Robert Parker: 92-94

Surprisingly deep colour in the glass. The nose is rich and with real citrus and marmalade notes indicating good botrytis intensity. The palate is rich and fresh. Good texture and fine acidity underlying it. The acidity and sweetness are in fine counterpoint. This is one of the best Sauternes of 2008.

Perfumed notes of lifted and intense cherry and berry fruit. This wine is supple textured with a fine cedar note, coupled with plum and blackcurrant fruit. Supported by fresh acidity and fine, integrated tannins, the finish is long and balanced, with a subtle and lingering tobacco touch. This is a rare taste of the grand vin at a fraction of the cost.

2008 Château Rauzan-Ségla, Cru Classé Margaux

2008 Château Rauzan-Ségla, Cru Classé Margaux

Wine currently held in transit or abroad, estimated arrival in the UK 30/04/2011 (Find out more about En Primeur)

Once one of the most highly thought of properties in Bordeaux at the time of the 1855 Classification, Château Rauzan-Ségla's reputation declined over the years until it was bought by Chanel in 1993. Since then, substantial investment and the influence of talented wine-maker John Kolassa has led to this property undergoing a major turn-around and it now produces some of the finest Margaux in any vintage. Charming nose of creamy cassis fruit. The palate shows a fresh, vibrant fruit character with black and red fruit spreading across the mid-palate. Beautifully textured with fresh acidity and fine-grained tannin giving length to this appealing Rauzan.

2008 Château Certan de May, Pomerol

2008 Château Certan de May, Pomerol

Wine currently held in transit or abroad, estimated arrival in the UK 30/04/2011 (Find out more about En Primeur)

This is one of the most consistently impressive wines from the J.P. Moueix stable over the last few vintages. Very fragrant and fresh, with dark plum, cherry and almost black forest-fruits. This is a juicy, elegant Pomerol with a wealth of layered, lush fruit tied to a tight mineral core. There is a tautness about this style which draws towards a cherry-stone mineral quality at the finish. This property does not quite make it into the limelight as it should, but one can see why the Moueix team serve it after Lafleur-Petrus and Hosanna in their annual trade tasting. It is a more structural, assertive Pomerol. Very elegant, offering good potential for cellarage. Fine-tuned, classic in style, with terrific purity and a long, persistent finish. Robert Parker: 91-93

2008 Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux, Margaux

2008 Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux, Margaux

Wine currently held in transit or abroad, estimated arrival in the UK 30/04/2011 (Find out more about En Primeur)

Offering inviting aromas of peach and grapefruit, with a touch of toasty vanillin, the 2008 Pavillon reveals fine freshness on the palate and a more linear nature than the impressive 2007. Notes of pink grapefruit, gently scented, with lively mouth-watering acidity impress greatly on the palate. Less opulent in style, more mineral than the norm, this is a remarkable Pavillon Blanc, of great purity and length.
