The Vilmart style is one of terrific richness, achieving a lively yet ripe acidity. Low yields in the vineyard ensure excellent concentration of fruit. The wines are rounder than most champagne, revealing purity and complexity in the glass.

2007 "Seul en Scene", Vins de Vienne, François Villard

From a parcel of vines located in Seyssuel, this pure Syrah really shone in our tastings, underlining the quality of this rediscovered terroir. The aromas suggest a cool ripe fruit: Raspberry and perfumed red cherry combine. On the palate, there is a Burgundian refinement, fresh layers of sumptuous fruit, glorious purity and a fresh vein of minerally acidity. The ripeness of fruit is superb, fully ripe but not overblown and only 12.6%. Competes comfortably with the great and good of Côte-Rôtie.

2001 Grand Cellier d'Or, Vilmart

The blend is predominantly Chardonnay (80%), which fashions a wine of rewarding complexity and finesse. Beautifully presented and of sufficient depth to serve alongside fine fish cuisine.

2000 Coeur de Cuvée, Vilmart

This 2000 is an open, accessible style with a generous sense of ripeness – no nervy acidity here. The Vilmart hallmarks of baked apple and patisserie characters are evident as well as the restrained effervescence. Pure, refined, Chardonnay dominant champagne with a soft mousse and notes of creamy brioche. This is the earliest drinking wine of this quartet, enjoyable now and over the next five years or more.
