Brücke is a low-lying vineyard, running alongside the river itself, renowned for producing wines of a distinctive minerality, quite full in their own way. Very open scents of sweet lime and green apple. The palate shows terrific power and definition, the intensity and poise are quite spectacular with wave upon wave of exotic nuanced fruit. This finishes with a flourish, revealing a deep mineral vein. Undeniably fine.
This is glorious spätlese and we purchased every case available! Extraordinarily complex, with richness in evidence, but the vibrancy of ripe acidity provides wonderful refreshment and scintillating race. A massive success in 2006.
The great wines of Dönnhoff need no introduction to lovers of German Riesling, their wines are a masterclass in terroir expression and elegance. Brightly fragrant on the nose, with pretty notes of peach and lime flower. The palate is intense and concentrated, with vibrant citrus characters combine with nectarine acacia honey. The finish on this is mineral and pure, with notes of candied citrus and crushed stone.
The nose of Haag's spätlese has a mineral element with plenty of ripe, fresh apple and peach but a note of slate too. The palate shows a beautiful poise between sweetness and acidity, signalling a very fine wine, more faithful to type than many in this vintage. Layered with wonderfully pure and defined fruit.
When the opportunity came up to offer one of Joh. Jos. Prum's fantastic rieslings it seemed too good an opportunity to pass up. This eccentric and enigmatic producer must surely rank as one of the world's leading producers of Riesling. In the last three years out of four he has produced Germany's top-voted Spatlese. 2004 looks to be a particularly exciting vintage with lovely balance to the wines. The 2004 Spatlese displays incredible intensity of fruit on both nose and palate with the classic riesling aromas of honey and floral notes. Although only a spatlese there is a broad tropical fruit note of botrytis on the palate which, combined with some subtle pepper and spice notes, adds layers of complexity. As one would expect there is a firm backbone of acidity to this wine which bodes well for the future although it does have the opulence and intensity of fruit to be enjoyed in its youth. Once again it seems that Manfred Prum has crafted a truly awe-inspiring wine that will go from strength to strength with time.
Delightfully floral, this has a faintly exotic perfume. Racy and deliciously crisp Riesling with broad, seductive scents hinting at pear, mango and apricot with a touch of citrus. Tropical fruit is in evidence on the palate, together with hints of greengage and Granny Smith apple. A Riesling with super-charged freshness and clean-cut purity.
Complex and appealing on the nose, with notes gentle notes of white flowers, spice and candied citrus. On the palate, while mouthcoating, this displays an appealingly delicate nature, with floral characters, white fruit and a delineating minerality that provides backbone to the soft fruit core.
Rich and luscious yet with vivid, vibrant acidity. Its fairly restrained nose of light citrus fruits, white petals and lime flower is supported by wonderfully sweet quince syrup and honey on the palate. Delightful and deliciously fresh. Incredible weight and balance. This is a wine of the utmost subtlety and elegance.
Würzgarten means “spice garden” in German and this is a character that is ably demonstrated by this beautiful Spätlese. The nose is redolent with bright, preserved citrus characters, dried apricot and heather. On the palate the fruit is ripe, attractive and full of zest, layered with a smoky mineral character and vanilla and cardamom spice. Incredibly long on the finish, fragrant and attractive.
