2007 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

2007 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

Restrained aromatically, with a suggestion of scented berry fruits, this shows an appealing red berry fruit character infused with notes of cedar. Mouthfilling and broad with fine-grained tannins, this reveals classic stony, gravely, mineral notes. As with the entire stable of wines at Latour, their intelligent approach to viticulture and winemaking has paid handsome dividends in the context of the 2007 vintage.

2008 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

2008 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

Restrained, cedary berry fruit and graphite with a scented accent on the nose. A poised style with very good substance. Firm, yet appealing, with fine-grained tannins. There is pleasing density to the ripe fruit on offer, which tends towards the red fruit end of the spectrum. Nuances of toast and a gravelly minerality build complexity in a taut, structural Forts de Latour. Elegant, firm and very successful, this is a very attractive Pauillac, a wine of the quality that one would associate with Second Growth status. Robert Parker: 91-93

2001 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

2001 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

Spicy, smoky oak underpins fruit. Structured with luscious curranty fruit and pauillac tobacco and pencil shaving notes on the palate. Firm yes, but generous too.

2002 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

2002 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

Deep, dense and almost opaque in colour with a restrained nose of cassis and plum. The palate has a core of dark fruit, cedar wood and a rich violet edge. There is firm structure here but the tannins are ripe and well integrated. Styled in a similar vein to the highly impressive grand vin, this shows terrific promise.

2003 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

2003 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

Deep brilliant purple colour with a strikingly rich herbaceous and cinnamon essenced aroma. In the mouth there is a wonderfully enticing, almost gamy character supported by sweet black fruit flavours. This is a tremendously concentrated wine with an incredible weight of fruit which truly expresses the wine's origins. Full and flavoursome.

2004 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

2004 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

Tasted blind, one would believe 2004 Les Forts to be a cru classé of a high level. Gorgeous seductive, pure fruit on the nose is an entrée to a palate that is alive with flavours of fresh blackcurrant, Victoria plum and blueberry supported by savoury spices. There is a depth that one often gains from old vines and balanced yields, which creates a sensation of a well-knit wine, with layered fruit. The texture is both silky and vibrant. Les Forts contains a higher percentage of Merlot than the grand vin and the result is a pauillac with a sumptuous, luscious character. Terrific Les Forts.

2006 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

2006 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

Deep in the glass, with ripe currant and dark berry aromas. A layered, natural style on the palate, effortless and round, with a bright acidity. There is a sense of fine precision here, and a distinct minerality. Very textural with a fine ripeness to the expansive berry fruit. Mid-weight, pure and refined, Les Forts lacks the muscle or structure of the grand vin, but works so well, with its harmony and striking purity. Long and poised.

2007 Château Latour, 1er Cru Pauillac

2007 Château Latour, 1er Cru Pauillac

The decision to incorporate a higher than normal proportion of press wine has given definition and valuable backbone to the 2007 Latour. Opaque in the glass, with restrained toasty, berry fruit and notes of cedar on the nose. The palate is quite open with a pure, attractive, fleshy accent. There is a sense of energy here, despite the forward nature and curranty dark fruits meld with a distinctive wet stone, gravely character. The tannins are soft and light yet lend enough drive to give direction. There is a fresh, vibrant accent throughout which adds to the attraction. Long and refined, there is less of the authoritative style that one would expect from more classic years, yet this is impressively refined in this context.

1995 Château Latour, 1er Cru Pauillac

1995 Château Latour, 1er Cru Pauillac

“A beauty, the opaque dense purple-colored 1995 exhibits jammy cassis, vanillin, and minerals in its fragrant but still youthful aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, with exceptional purity, superb concentration, and a long, intense, ripe, 40-second finish, this is a magnificent example of Latour. As the wine sat in the glass, scents of roasted espresso and toasty new oak emerged. This classic will require considerable cellaring.”
