2006 L'Accent de la Roquète, Brunier

2006 L'Accent de la Roquète, Brunier

A recent addition to the Brunier portfolio, this special selection of just 4,000 bottles comprises 90% old vine
Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre. The vine-age delivers terrific concentration allied to the same familial elegance that is found with La Roquète itself. The sandy soils of the vineyard deliver markedly fragrant aromatics. There is a lush, layered fruit on the palate, all dusky raspberry, garrigue and spice. A sweet sense of ripeness is evident here, again making for an instantly appealing cuvée, though there is more to this wine, more backbone and finer length. Perhaps the best l’Accent yet.

2006 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine de Cristia

2006 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine de Cristia

The 2006 vintage is elegant and impressive. There’s good substance here with vivid raspberry and lightly spiced red fruits. There is a touch of liquorice evident, as well as deep-knit spice in this stylish châteauneuf. What impresses most about this style is that it fits so well into the Cristia style, textured and elegant with silky round tannins. What more could you ask for?

2006 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine Bois de Boursan

2006 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine Bois de Boursan

New to Lay & Wheeler
An impressive domaine, that is run by Jean-Paul Versino, the third generation of this Piemontese family to make wine in Châteauneuf. The ‘Tradition’ is a wine of great character. Deep and intense in the glass with a purplish hue. The aromas are striking, offering characters of freshly crushed, sweet, ripe hedgerow fruits. There is such a fine sense of poise here with gently mouthfilling macerated cherry fruit, allied to complex notes of pepper, spice and garrigue, with a smoky, meaty overtone. Very complete and impressive, outstanding for the estate’s normal cuvée.

2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe

2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe

Deep in the glass, with baked dark red berry aromas, fragrant, sweet, peppery and ripe. The freshness and sense of poise is very impressive – beautifully balanced, with a fine intensity. There is plenty of volume here, dark cherry and cassis characters and notes of fragrant garrigue. The stoney, minerally nuances assert to the finish, which also reveals a little more grip and definition. A wine of striking purity and again a wine revealing that juicy ease of appreciation that seems so typical of 2007. Gloriously long and lingering.

2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine la Roquète

2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine la Roquète

Comprising a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, the 2007 shows a vibrant purple hue in the glass. The aromas are of scented, gently spiced black raspberry. Similar notes continue on the palate, which reveals a layered, attractive, more-ish fruit with a touch of liquorice. The tannins are finely expressed, with mineral traces and peppery garrigue notes to the finish. Long, fine and flowing – one of the finest Roquètes that we can recall.

2007 L'Accent de la Roquète, Vignobles Brunier, Domaine la Roquète

2007 L'Accent de la Roquète, Vignobles Brunier, Domaine la Roquète

Only around 4,000 bottles of this sensational cuvée are produced. Unlike Roquète, L’Accent comprises 90% old vine Grenache. Purple in the glass, with more overt, baked berry and cherry aromas than the above. The palate reveals a terrific sweet attack, ripe, open and full with silky, fine tannins. Notes of liquorice, summer berry compote and garrigue are evident – expressive with plenty of volume, there is a fine sense of poise here in this wonderfully pure Châteauneuf. Very fine indeed.

2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Classique, Domaine de Cristia

2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Classique, Domaine de Cristia

A clean-cut modern style of Châteauneuf-du-Pape that does not lack character or personality. Pure, bright red berry with a fresh, supple core of fruit lightly framed by tannin. There is a really attractive weight and with great depth of flavour. This is an elegant wine with clarity of expression, and classic flavours and textures of fine Grenache.

2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Tradition, Domaine Font de Michelle

2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Tradition, Domaine Font de Michelle

An exemplary tradition cuvée, the Gonnets focus considerable attention on their signature wine and it shows. With deep ripe fruit on the nose, which captures the essence of soft-skinned dark fruits, as well as notes of a meaty, Smoky nature. The palate shows no lack of substance, with generous deep fruit, notes of garrigue and a character of melted liquorice. This shows such a well-judged ripeness, and a sense of harmony. As impressive as ever, perhaps even the best vintage of the last decade for this Domaine's tradition.
