2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Tradition, Domaine Clos du Mont Olivet

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Tradition, Domaine Clos du Mont Olivet

The domaine made the decision not to make Papet this year, so they have concentrated all their efforts into the Tradition and the results are exceptional. Pure and elegant in style, the fragrance is wonderfully open, with cherry, raspberry and sweet spice character. The palate is fleshy, with floral, menthol and Provençal herb notes supported by fine, velvety tannins that hint at a bright future ahead. Fantastically concentrated, this is surely one of the stars of the appellation this vintage.
Wine currently held in transit or abroad, estimated arrival in the UK October 2013. (Find out more about En Primeur)

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château de Beaucastel

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château de Beaucastel

Very bright and open, this lovely wine is redolent of blue fruits scented with pretty violets, spice and rose petals. The palate shows excellent concentration and depth with an attractive fleshy character and a long finish. The firmtannins and powerful blueberry, cherry and blackberry fruit marry well with the pure vein of acidity that runs throughout. This is a very impressive wine from one of the most skilful winemakers in the Rhône.

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, L'Accent de la Roquète

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, L'Accent de la Roquète

A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah. With the majority of the grapes previously destined for this cuvée now going into the Télégramme, the fruit for L’Accent de la Roquète now comes from the best vineyard areas on the estate. The quality increase is palpable. Fabulously scented, with notes of wild strawberry, cherry, thyme and pepper. The palate is silken with a suave texture, giving this a beautifully juicy mouth-feel. It has excellent balance with the core of bright acidity providing a delightful elegance to accentuate the pretty florals.

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Cuvée Réservée, Domaine du Pégau

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Cuvée Réservée, Domaine du Pégau

This is a very dark, serious and brooding wine from the enigmatic Laurence Féraud. Savoury, meaty aromas combine with spice, pepper and garrigue, dried leaves and clove. It has soft, supple autumnal flavours on the palate, with excellent mid-palate concentration, sound tannic structure, and outstanding length. It should be approachable on release, yet given the track record here, it will undoubtedly also age gracefully.
(Given 90-93 points in the Wine Advocate, Robert Parker)

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Gallimardes, Domaine Giraud

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Gallimardes, Domaine Giraud

This serious and much sought-after cuvée comes from 100 year old vines, 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah. The fantastically heady and alluring perfume of lavender, violet and juniper berries has an incredible intensity. On the palate, this is deep and concentrated with rich dark blackberries and morello cherry, wrapped up in layers of chocolate notes and given a slight savoury edge. Perfectly balanced and eminently elegant.

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Pure, Domaine La Barroche

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Pure, Domaine La Barroche

Described by Robert Parker as being potentially “the wine of the vintage” (Wine Advocate #203), this is an exception Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Darkly intense and pure, with notes of black berries, hedgerow fruit and an elusive herbal note. The palate is rich, densely-textured and mouthcoating, with fine, ripe tannins, yet a mineral backbone gives this a sense of freshness, balance and poise.

This is, as ever, a sensational cuvée. 100% Grenache from 100 year old vines.Wonderful aromas of violets and lavender combine with pure black fruit notes and delicate nuances of rosemary and thyme. Morello cherry, damson and plums wrap around silky soft tannins, layers of mocha and sweet vanilla spice. 2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos Saint Jean

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos Saint Jean

Exotic and perfumed with iris and violets¸ the nose is highly aromatic, displaying the quintessential Clos St Jean concentration. Intense dark, ripe fruit flavours are abundant on the palate, which is richly textured and glossy whilst not losing the balance of freshness that shows beautifully on the finish, where just a hint of sweet spice teases its way through.
