Incredibly low yields and careful selection at harvest time have meant an outstanding wine has been made from this vineyard in 2001. Full of intense black fruit flavours, with a firm masculine structure, this wine exudes class.
Striking ruby hue in the glass, the nose reveals both berry and floral notes. Terrific mouthfeel, with ripe cherry fruit and a generous, pleasing finish.
This cuvée is always a classy wine and 2003 is no exception. It expresses wonderful purity of redcurrant fruit on the nose, supported by a natural volume of fruit. This is a complete wine with real balance and no rough edges, and shows why Michel Lafarge is still considered the master of Volnay.
This inviting wine has a lovely, floral scented nose and ripe autumn fruit flavours.
Cherries and red berries on the nose, which continue through to the full-bodied palate. There is a toasted element from oak, and a tarry finish. A big wine.
The d'Angerville family has been making fine Burgundy since the late 1800s. Fleshy texture and lovely depth of flavour with superb ripeness and purity to the bramble and sweet cherry fruit. A good structure which will ensure a long life.
Although 'only' a village appellation, Vendanges Selectionnées comes from specific parcels of old vines that Michel and Frédéric feel merit distinction from the standard volnay cuvée. On the nose there is volume and intensity, also a fine level of ripeness. The palate too has volume and intensity with a creamy, velvet note to the fruit. The balance is perfect, with a seamless harmony between acidity, fruit and structured tannins.
Upon tasting this wine, one gets the sense that 2004 is very much a return to a more classic Pinot character. Not only is there a wonderful vibrancy of succulent red berry fruit but one also gets the wonderful velvet feel of volnay. The palate is ripe and intense with ripe, fleshy tannins and an intense burst of mineral acidity on the finish. Textbook volnay village.
From a parcel of 65-year-old vines. Didier Darviot commented on the need to sort the fruit well in 2004. His efforts have paid dividends, as is evidenced in this flowing, silky Volnay, which reveals vivid, dark fruits, tremendous elegance and with a lovely sense of proportion. Very fine and hard to fault, with wave upon wave of gentle ripe fruit and fine tannins. A special Volnay.
