Striking ruby hue in the glass, the nose reveals both berry and floral notes. Terrific mouthfeel, with ripe cherry fruit and a generous, pleasing finish.
This cuvée is always a classy wine and 2003 is no exception. It expresses wonderful purity of redcurrant fruit on the nose, supported by a natural volume of fruit. This is a complete wine with real balance and no rough edges, and shows why Michel Lafarge is still considered the master of Volnay.
Always one of my favourite wines at this cellar and the 2003 is no exception. This wine balances its soft confit overtones with a lovely silky texture. There is breadth, richness and beautiful poise: the final comment in my note was simply ‘Top Class!’
A delicious and appealing Clos des Mouches, full of spice and with concentrated notes of wild fruits. The soft tannins uplift the flavours creating a very approachable wine in both style and structure.
Always the most powerful of Aleth's wines, this is full of lively vibrant fruit, with good firm tannins enhanced by some really intense black fruit flavours. This is long and complex and ideal for ageing.
The wine is full of chocolate and vanilla notes, supported by sweet berry fruit. It has excellent drive on the mid palate, and a very good long sweet finish.
A lovely Bressandes which has really benefited from the location of its vineyards. With sweet fresh cherry aromas, this expresses beautifully ripe flavours with good rounded tannins, and a wonderfully long rich textured fruit finish. Excellent.
Chambolle-Musigny has made some delicious wines in 2003, and Cathiard's Clos de L’Orme highlights the appellation’s success. It is full of sweet, spiced red fruits supported by supple tannins. A harmonious wine with fine balance on the finish.
2003 was an unusually warm vintage in Burgundy, giving the wines a more heady aromatic. This is redolent with red cherry and spice. On the palate, this has rich, ripe fruit and spicy, raspberry and mocha scented fruit.
With Grivot's production down in 2003 by a massive 40% the only complaint over this superb village vosne-romanée is the tiny volume available. A very rich and concentrated style as one would expect from the vintage, this has immense power and will reward some cellarage.
