Exquisite clarity of perfume and palate. Apricot notes dominate a broad array of scents and flavours. Finesse and sophistication here as opposed to weight and power. Very long and fresh and excellent value.
Absolutely wonderful! Pale gold appearance. A peacock's tail of scents are evident in this profound, complex nectar. Ultra-rich but supremely balanced. A great sauternes.
Climens opens its doors for tasting very late in the tasting 'season' and no exceptions were made for the 2001 vintage! David Roberts and I were mutual guests with Bernice Lurton (who runs Climens) at a dinner during our April visit and she is totally confident that the Estate has made one of its greatest wines in 2001. Few would disagree that Climens is the number one Barsac property and I look forward with anticipation to tasting the 2001 in due course. We cannot believe that 2001 Climens is anything less than magnificent.
2001 was a tremendous year for the great sweet wines of Bordeaux, probably the best in the last decade and Coutet excelled itself. Rich, luscious and opulent, with appealing tropical notes on the nose that carry through onto the palate, where they are joined by the beautiful complexity that comes from botrytised fruit. Perfectly balanced, with an elegant and refreshing acidity that carries through onto a sensational finish.
A big, sumptuous sauternes in the classic Lafaurie style. The perfume is multi-dimensional with waves of exotic and citrus (most noticeably orange zest) and honey lifted by acidity. The palate is broad, evocative and with concentrated richness. Yet, as with all the leading sauternes of the impressive 2003 vintage, freshness and vitality counter any suggestion of cloying sweetness.
One of the stars of this vintage. Floral, fragrant and perfumed with hints of honey and spices melding with beautifully pure tropical fruit nuances. One looks for finesse and sophistication in Barsac and Coutet '05 displays these qualities to the letter. Absolutely lovely and not to be missed.
Slightly closed on the nose at this stage, with subtle notes of white flowers and candied tropical fruits. On the palate, this is supremely well balanced, with rich, unctuous honeyed fruit, balanced by a touch minerality and a deliciously fresh touch.
An exquisitely beautiful sauternes that is clearly at the very highest level of sweet wines of the 2005 vintage. Was for many years under the same ownership as d'Yquem, which has been sold by the Lur Saluces family quite recently. A stunning tropical aroma is an entrée to a beautiful streamlined palate. Glorious composure here. Sweet yes but not cloying, with wave upon wave of high class exotic flavours.
