The nose exudes an admirable freshness, with understated notes of cassis and deep berry. The palate is elegant and refined with vibrant berryfruit to the fore. Distinctive and not as heady as some, this has taken on a bit more weight since bottling. Texturally this impresses greatly with a classic velvety nuance.
Perhaps the vintage that elevated Poyferré in many people’s eyes. The 2002 is a very complete style, exudes harmony with a velvet-like mouthfeel. The fruit characters here are of dark berry, blackcurrant, again with a deep-knit almost liquorice-like note. Very classy indeed, striking purity with impressive persistence. The tell-tale freshness of the vintage is here for all to see. Very fine, rich but not too dense, or concentrated. If Poyferré is missing from your cellar, it is worth asking why!
Now showing its true class. Intense in appearance and equally so on the palate where there is a substantial weight of deep berry fruit. Cedary nuances are building too and there is a lovely sense of freshness coupled with distinguished purity. 2002 continues Léoville-Barton’s rich form over the last decade.
