2011 Cartology Bush Vines, Chenin Blanc/Semillon, Chris Alheit, Western Cape

2011 Cartology Bush Vines, Chenin Blanc/Semillon, Chris Alheit, Western Cape

A blend of 90% Chenin Blanc and 10% Semillon, the fruit for this wine comes from the cooler region of Walker Bay in the Western Cape, fast gaining a reputation for producing some incredibly fine, fresh wines. As the name suggests, the Chenin Blanc is from the ancient bush vines, all dry farmed, planted at altitude and over at least 30 years old. The old vines and the altitude give this wine an intense and complex character. The nose has notes of white stone fruit, alongside honey and quince. The palate in comparison is quite reined in, taut and toned with concentrated citrus and white peach characters, finishing long and mineral, with hints of woodsmoke.
