Really deep colour, with intense blackberry and black cherry fruit on the nose and a hint of olive. Lovely richness on a deep and concentrated palate. This has some of the power of Brunello with the classic savoury edge. However, it has a flowing and more supple texture, with lovely balance and silky tannins. Some acidity, but it is the wealth of fruit that dominates the 2006 Birba. Excellent, putting a lot of Brunello di Montalcino in the shade.
