Tasting Note
Alan Brumont purchased Montus in the 1980s and is now regarded as one of the key producers responsible for the resurgence of this famously traditional appellation. The wine is made predominantly from Tannat from low-yielding vines. Montus is meticulously made and delivers a dense, savoury and highly distinctive wine with long cellar potential.
Grape Variety
In its native home in Madiran, south-west France, Tannat produces muscular, dense, tannic wines with the potential to mature gracefully in bottle. Flavours are equally rugged, presenting plum and dark berry fruit and a note of game and spice. Also grown in Uruguay where it is now the most planted red variety, normally blended with Bordeaux grapes. Tannat is believed to contain an unusually high concentration of Resveratrol in its skin, the anti-oxidant compound.
