Intense, opaque in the glass, the aromas here reveal ripe dark cherry, leafy blackcurrant and toasty, almost cedary nuances. The sense of concentration on the palate is impressive, but what convinces most of all is its faultless poise and balance. Amazingly graceful despite its evident stature, this is harmonious with plentiful dark fruits, dense, ripe and effortless. There is a terrific structure here, tightly wound but with a remarkably fine, minerally, almost gravely nature to the tannins that serves to add definition. An assertive framework with a sublime depth of pure, freshly-styled fruit and a finish that refuses to fade for some considerable time. Such a fine example – a bright future seems assured.

As for the 2005 Lynch-Bages, it is a sexy, surprisingly soft and accessible style of wine, with a deep ruby/purple color, loads of crème de cassis, cedar wood and forest floor notes, medium to full body, ripe tannin and a long, fleshy finish. Drink it over the next 15+ years.
