2003 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild, Cru Classé Pauillac

2003 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild, Cru Classé Pauillac

Charles Chevalier, the brilliant régisseur of Duhart (and all the Lafite-Rothschild family of properties) commented that the vineyard at the estate is producing their best-ever fruit. He also explained that the new cellar, which is equipped with small fermentation vats to allow fruit from individual parcels of vineyard to be fermented seperately, was of vital importance this year. The fleshy, rich, graphite-scented and black fruit-laden 2003 vintage is the most impressive Duhart we have encountered. For those who note technical details, Charles' fiche technique reveals that Merlots were picked on 5th September and then again between 9th and 12th whilst the Cabernets came in between 18th and 29th September. Cabernet Sauvignon comprises 73% of the assemblage and Merlot 27%. Our fingers were crossed that Duhart would be below the £200 price barrier so to recommend the wine as excellent value for money – and are very pleased that it has done so. Classic fresh, natural pauillac.
