2007 Barolo Gavarini Vigna Chiniera, Elio Grasso, Piedmont
If you are a fan of Burgundy and want to buy a wine from the Elio Grasso stable then this is the one for you. Made from the fruit of 35 year old vines planted on a mixture of limestone, sand and chalk, it is highly charged with aromas of almond blossom and white pepper. The palate has notes of black cherry and tar, with plenty of ripe, fat tannin, balanced by lace-like acidity. Very complex, with great intensity, this is my favourite wine from this estate.
