Château Gruaud-Larose
An historic estate which has proved a great favorite in the UK market. Classified a Second growth in 1855, it was subsequently divided through inheritance law, only to be re-joined through purchase of both parts by Cordier in 1935. It was sold in 1993 to Alcatel Alsthom, and subsequently in 1997 to the Taillan Group, proprietors of Chasse-Spleen and other Bordeaux estates. Sitting proudly amongst its 82 hectares of vines, Gruaud Larose has produced many memorable vintages. Its style has shifted slowly from a firm, foursquare style of old, needing many years to soften, to a more refined, elegant wine of today. The vineyard contains 30% Merlot, giving the wine a pronounced fruit and fleshiness. The second wine is Sarget de Gruaud Larose.
