Summer Drinking Red

2004 Château Paloumey, Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc

2004 Château Paloumey, Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc

Château Paloumey has been under the ownership of Martine Cazeneuve since 1990. It has come to the attention of Bordeaux enthusiasts relatively recently, producing some excellent wines from its well-situated vineyards, adjacent to those of the highly respected châteaux of La Lagune and Cantemerle. This is a deep and rich claret, with dark plum and cassis fruit on both the nose and palate. Full bodied, but a touch of mineral acidity adds a sense of refinement. Delicious with red meats and hearty winter-fare.

2006 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Petit Mont, Clos Mont Olivet

2006 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Petit Mont, Clos Mont Olivet

Described in renowned wine critic Robert Parker's "The World's Greatest Wine Estates" as "one of the very best [producers of] Châteauneuf-du-Pape", Clos du Mont Olivet make traditional Châteauneuf. While the Sabon family have been making wine at Clos du Mont Olivet for over four generations, Le Petit Mont is a relative newcomer and made from fruit from the domaine's younger vines.
This is classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with rich red-berry fruit characters overlaid with hints of aniseed, white pepper and provençal herbs. Smooth and mouthfilling, but with some structure, this would be ideal with cold-cuts and roasted meats.
