The Prices

We anticipate prices to be released from the middle of April onwards. How will proprietors react to the fact that 2007 generally is not an outstanding Bordeaux vintage? Demand for the wines has proved strong in recent years but will they take into account the present global mood of financial uncertainty? We must accept that the 2006s set a new baseline for the best wines, a level that, barring the unforeseeable, is here to stay. Chateaux proprietors and negoçiants must nevertheless keep in mind the primary goal of buying ‘en primeur’ – to secure stocks of the leading wines at prices that are expected to be lower than at bottling eighteen months or so from the vintage. With this in mind we will not buy a wine where we believe its price is unreasonable.
