2007 Bordeaux en primeur
The first tastings of the 2007s suggest that we are looking at wines for the mid-term; reds are supple with fine fruit expression and light tannins, and are in a classic, elegant vein. Dry whites are crisp and appealing with a cut of acidity and good length; sweet wines from Sauternes and Barsac appear to be very good indeed. The season posed a number of challenges, notably from the near total absence of summer until the end of August which necessitated enormous dedication in the vineyards. It could be said that the vintage has proved the validity of the concept of ‘survival of the fittest’.
