Near opaque in the glass, the aromas exude dark, soft-skinned berry fruit. Full and ripe, with a floral lift, this is deceptively dense Grand-Puy-Lacoste. Expansive, soft-textured and with well-veiled fine, sweet tannins, which add a silky refinement to an already complex character that offers notes of graphite and cedar. This carries its weight well, leading to a dry, savoury, long finish. A very impressive vintage.

Damson compôte intermingles with a hint of liquorice on the nose. Ripe blackberry and plum fruit on the attack is followed by a freshening graphite minerality. Structurally, this is a big wine exhibiting muscular, mouthcoating tannins, which are well-balanced against the weight and concentration of fruit. A big, burly example of St-Emilion.
