The term Goldkapsel, which appears in some German wine names, refers to the quality level of the wine. Goldkapsel (translated literally as 'gold capsule', referring to the foil around the neck of the bottle) wines are the top cuvées made from a selection of the finest grapes. This is equivalent to the 'selection des grains nobles' in Alsace.
