The Fine Wine Broking Service
It is often said that customers fall into two camps: those who never have enough wine in the cellar and those who have too much. Whatever the reason, it is perfectly possible to sell fine wines which may be surplus to requirements through a commercial broking service such as that provided by Lay & Wheeler. Wines are offered for sale, usually by the case, at the current market price to traders, restaurants and to other private buyers. Broking is a fully hands-off service for which an agreed commission is charged on the eventual sale.
The Broking Department has its origins in the unique, yet highly successful, Directors' Bins service, which has managed the sale of fine wines from Lay & Wheeler's own customer reserves for many years. These stocks contain cases that have been stored in the company's care, often since being purchased en primeur. The major benefit of this trading process to both vendor and purchaser lies in the condition of these wines. Lay & Wheeler has no doubt that provenance and a storage history will become an even more important factor in wine resale in the future, given the increasingly global nature of the marketplace.
We are also extremely interested to hear from people with exciting collections of well-cellared fine wine from other sources. Please contact Karen Graves by e-mail on: broking@laywheeler.com or by phone on 01473 313259, with details, and she will be delighted to advise you of a valuation.
